Privacy Notice

What the submission system collects, and how it is used.

This notice explains what personal information the journal’s submission and review system collects, how it is used, and where it is held. It covers the editorial process only; once an article is published, the data shown with it is governed by the publisher.

What we collect

From authors we collect names, email addresses, affiliation, and country; an ORCID where you choose to supply one; the manuscript and any related files; and, at acceptance, a mailing address. From reviewers we hold names, affiliations, areas of expertise, and the reports they file. We also keep the correspondence connected with a submission.

How we use it

This information is used only to manage submission, peer review, and editorial decisions, and to correspond with authors and reviewers. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where it is held

The editorial system records submissions in Airtable, stores manuscript files in Google Drive, and uses Make to pass information from the website forms into that record. Your information is held with these service providers under their terms and is accessible only to the editor.

Reviewer confidentiality

Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors. Authors’ identities are withheld from reviewers in the double-anonymized review of articles.

Retention and your choices

We keep submission and review records for as long as needed to maintain the editorial history of the journal. To ask what we hold about you, or to request a correction or deletion where appropriate, write to JNL@francis.edu.

Published articles

Once an article is published, the personal data associated with it, such as author names and affiliations, is processed by The Catholic University of America Press and Project MUSE under their own privacy policies.
